The aim of the study was to examine the associaton between motor difficulties and overweight and obesity in older school-age boys and girls and at the same time examine if this association is affected by age. In 219 boys aged 12.8+-1.0 and 203 girls aged 12.8+-1.2 from ten Czech schools was executed basic anthropometric measurement and assessment of motor proficiency with Movement ABC-2 test (Henderson el al., 2007).
In boys and girl with motor difficulties was identifed signifiantly higher incidence of overweight and obesity in comparison with boys and girls without motor difficulties. At the same time, a trend of the higher BMI was found in children with low level of motorics.
The age was not found as the factor of relationship between motor difficulties and BMI. The results of this study encourage the hypothesis about motor difficulties as the risk factor for overweight and obesity in older school-age children.
