Towards current tendencies in the area of verbal politeness research

Abstract

The study deals with current tendencies in the area of verbal politeness research. It concerns criticism of concept of face in Brown and Levinson's approach, new approaches to the concept of face, criticism of approaches based on politeness maxims, abandoning endeavours to find pragmatic universals.

There are mentioned limits of main methods of pragmalinguistic research.
