Text is dealing with Czech explorations in el-Hayez oasis (Bahariyah), in the locality Bir Shawish, mostly village settlements in this location, production areas and pottery found in this locality (mostly in unearthed House no. 3), also military buildings, trails and waterworks (manawars) belonging to Roman period. It interprets findings of several scientific expeditions to el-Hayez and directs them into broader context of Roman presence in the Egyptian Western desert.
It pinpoints interdisciplinary focus of Czech expedition and the fact that complex evaluation of settlement, its structures and character in relation to city aglomerations was in its depth here considered for the first time.
