Abstract
Acoustics is in its applicational enterprises often obliged to consider perceptual aspects of various problems. The present study explains current use of reaction time (latency) measurements in research that involves acoustic stimuli and compares three software tools that are freely available to the research community.
The three applications are first briefly described with the focus on their strengths and weaknesses and then tested in terms of the consistency of their sound-file initiation and measurement precision. Automatically extracted data are compared with the values retrieved manually with the help of an external device and the best results are reported.
