This paper deals with a research study carried out among the participants of a two-year extension programme in the field of English language and literature at the Faculty of Education, Charles University, Prague. The research uses both quantitive and qualitative research methodology.
It examines the expectations which its participants have at the beginning of their studies as well as the extent to which the they have been fulfilled after the completion of the programme. Furthermore, it deals with the most decisive factors influencing the success of such a study programme, taking into account the ways in which they may influence the programme in question.
The data collected will serve as one of sources for the creation of the teoretical basis of a new study programme.
