Abstract

The scope of this study is a comparative analysis of phenomena pertaining to dandyism and metrosexualism, which are perceived as aesthetic ideals of masculinity in modernism and postmodernism. Dandyism is a lifestyle which lays emphasis on individualism, independence and physical appearance as these are means of male self-presentation and mechanisms of social stratification.

The aim is to present the dandy and the metrosexual as specific cultural concepts of masculinity in the context of historic epochs of modernism and postmodernism as well as original forms of personal identification with fashionable lifestyle given by culture.
