The Salad of Modernity of Václav Nebeský and Emil Filla. How to write about Czechoslovak Modern Art

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2012

Abstract

The art critic Václav Nebeský is the author of the first major survey of Czechoslovak modern art (V. Nebeský, L'art moderne tchécoslovaque, Paris 1937).

Probably by the end of the twenties he was in contact with Czech Cubist painter Emil Filla, which resulted in polemics on how to write on and what to include in the concept of "Czechoslovak modern art" in 1933. The article discusses unpublished Nebeský's letters to Filla and concept of Filla's letter from painter.
