Abstract

The article considers the translatability of the gender of a text. Even texts whose themes and forms highlight gender as a result of the author's communicative purpose, political intention or imaginative work may lose their gendered meanings due to the shifts in gender-insensitive Czech translations.

In the second part the article discusses the concepts and approaches of Feminist Translation (a critical discourse and translation practice with its roots in the 1970s Québec) as well as their applicability in the Czech contemporary context,
