Alessandro Baricco and the postmodern playing with space

Abstract

The study is foccused on the space motive in the novel City by the contemporary Italian author Alessandro Baricco. The question of space is being associated with the postmodern poetics in general, especially with its characteristic signs such as fragmentarity and mosaic structure based on genre diversity.

The text follows the real space of a city and also the fictional space of parallel stories. Another level or concept of space considered here is the existencial perspective: inner and outer space or the real, authentic space versus the fictional space.
