The significant attention has been paid to the deepening of intra-African cooperation and integration processes contributing in the long-term perspective to overcoming of economic and social underdevelopment and to establish stable democratic institutions as pre-condition for the promotion of sustainable development and the protection of the environment. The article analyses how the African integration process is reflecting the concept of sustainable development and environmental sustainability that are internationally required to e an essential part of the strategic goals and documents related to African integration.
The role of NEPAD, as a starter of new phase of African integration incorporating sustainable development principles, is assessed.
