Abstract

A varied feminist/gender scene has formed in the CR over the past 20 years. It includes an academic element (BA programme in Brno, MA programme in Prague, Gender & Sociology at SOÚ AV ČR, etc.), NGOs (Gender Studies, o.p.s., Fórum 50%, o.s., proFem, o.p.s. a řada dalších) as well ass less formalised groups (anarchofeminisms, DIY zines).

All these elements contribute to negotiating with feminist theories, often from a different historical and social tradition. Despite valuable partial analyses (e.g., Kapusta-Pofahl 2002, Hájek, Kabele, Vojtíšková 2006, Chaloupková 2006) there has been no overview of theoretical approaches undertaken by different parts of the scene.

The paper looks at the form of negotiation between different elements of the scene using the metaphor of border to highlight some of the controversies.
