The publication examines the prospects of the Czech Republic’s population development between 2008 and 2070. Along with an analysis, it presents projection ideas of the future evolution of individual parts of the population development: fertility, mortality and migration, followed up with an overview of the main results of a comprehensive population projection.
In its final part, the publication presents and comments on the basic features of the Czech Republic’s population development until 2070. A progressive population ageing along with all forms of its impact on the economic and primarily social spheres of society is very likely to be its dominant feature.
The projection was primarily conducted for the needs of the Expert Consultative Body (PES), established by the Finance and Labour and Social Affairs Ministers in January 2010 in order to: (i) update a projection of the state pension system; and (ii) to recommend changes to the pension system. The approved modifications of the pension system translated into the wording of the Law No. 220/2011 of the Gazette of Laws from June 21, 2011, which changed the law No. 155/1995 of the Gazette of Laws on pension insurance, into the wording of later regulations, and further laws (see http://www.psp.cz/sqw/text/orig2.sqw?idd=68847).
