About the intentions of the research of intentions. The Neo-phenomenology of religions by J. Waardenburg

Publication at Hussite Theological Faculty |
2012

Abstract

The article aims at analysis of "neo-phenomenology of religion" developed by J. Waardenburg.

The point of departure is his critique of the classical concept of phenomenology of religion. Waardenburg seeks to elaborate a concept of intentionality as a tool for comprehending of emic perspective (self-understanding of believers) in the study of religions.

The author criticizes the concept of intentionality in neo-phenomenology as problematic and argues that Waardenburg failed to sufficiently distance himself from the concept of understanding of the classical phenomenology of religion.
