Abstract

Treatment with clozapine is indicated in the pharmacoresistant schizophrenia. Frequent adverse effects associated with clozapine include weight gain and metabolic adverse effects.

We present a case series of 13 patients treated with the combination of clozapine and aripiprazole. After one year of follow-up we have observed a significant weight loss and alleviation of psychopathology in the treated individuals.

In accordance with the literature we suggest the benefit of described combination in cases where the clozapine cant be switched to another antipsychotic and the patients already have some of the cardiovascular risk factors.
