Abstract

Meningococcal diseases are severe infectious diseases that are caused by bacteria Neisseria meningitidis. These infections can present several distinct clinical pictures.

They are characteristic by rapid progress of the disease and high mortality rate. Early recognition of their symptoms and commencement of proper antibiotic treatment are crucial.

Vaccination offers the possibility of prevention.
