The measurement of the asymmetrical loads of m.iliopsoas

Abstract

The aim of this pilot study is to verify the asymmetrical loads of m.iliopsoas when driving a speed canoe C1 using the MRI. We assume that when driving a speed canoe the unilateral loading leads to overloading of one of the m. iliopsoas and thus degenerative position of the pelvis and lumbar spine.

To determine the amount of intramuscular lactate in these muscle groups we use the MRI spectroscopic analysis. The resulting value of exercise stress testing evaluation lactate unfortunately did not demonstrate large differences between the right and the left m. iliospoas.

The first reason not to validate our hypothesis could be the question whether paddling lasted long enough. This hypothesis, however, verify the same measurement that will be provide this year.

This measurement will be extended to analyze muscle glycogen in the m. iliopsoas.
