Abstract

In this study, we present the molecular characterization of MβL-producing P. aeruginosa isolates derived from a Czech hospital. A total of 16 meropenem-non-susceptible P. areuginosa isolates were recovered from patients hospitalized in St.

Anna’s Teaching Hospital (Brno, Czech Republic), during the period 2009-2011. In the present study, an increased isolation frequency of MβL-producing P. aeruginosa (10 out of 12 MβL producers were isolated in 2011) in St.

Anna’s Teaching Hospital in Brno was observed in 2011. This was primarily due to the spread of isolates of ST357 producing VIM-2 or/and IMP-7 MβLs.

Increased vigilance and strengthening of infection control measures are required in order to prevent establishment and further spread of these pathogens.
