Abstract

Metacognition is ability to think over own processes of thinking. Training of metacognition is aimed at changes of structure of delusions.

Focusing on cognitive biases subserving delusions rather then on limitations and deficits of cognition due to delusions differentiate training of metacognition and common rehabilitation. Metacognitive Training for Schizophrenia Patients (MCT), developed by Steffen Moritz and Todd S.

Woodward at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, is sophisticated tool for training and enhancement of metacognitive abilities of patients with psychosis and schizophrenia. In eight independent modules the patient is taught and couched in attributional style, empathy, metamemory processes and self-esteem, changing beliefs and avoiding hasty decision-making.

We are presenting one-year experience with using MCT at locked ward setting and out-patient day clinic for psychotic patients at out department.
