The article describes the purpose and method of creating geographic authorities. Authorities are unified selective data that describe documents and are used for their subsequent search in catalogues.
The main information of the hierarchical entry is a header supplemented with links, universal decimal classification, coordinates, quotation of the source, possibly notes. The methodology and the method of creating geographical authorities in the Czech Republic and new trends leading to their extension of creating authorities for other memory institutions are described here.
The example of harmonization of the geographical entries shows the issue of creating the entries but also the practical work with data necessary to search for information in catalogues of memory institutions.
