Abstract

Neurorehabilitation is an inclusive term for a multidisciplinary rehabilitation approach to patients with neurological diseases. These patients may suffer not only from movement disorders but also cognitive and neurobehavioral problems as well as aphasias.

The European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS) Task Force on Standards in Neurological Rehabilitation was established in June 1996. The remit for the Task Force is to produce a report on the state of neurological rehabilitation across Europe and to recommend standards for the provision of neurological rehabilitation services for disabled people.

The World Federation for Neurorehabilitation is now the leading organization in its field. The Czech Society of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine has a section for neurorehabilitation which is a member of the WFNR.

However, a great deal of work, including changes in legislation, remains to be done.
