Abstract

As in the first part "Pathological signs and symptoms", we state that "signs and symptoms are basic elements of diagnosis!" A symptom is a subjective feeling experienced by a patient that causes discomfort, whereas a sign is an objective finding revealed by examination. In principle, the book contains differential diagnostics, focussing on the following signs and symptoms: adynamia, alopecia, anaemia, anosmia, ataxia, dehydration, the discoloration and abnormal shape of fingernails, dysuria, epistaxis, exanthema, exophthalmos and enophthalmos, urinary incontinence, cachexia, daudication, myalgia, nystagmus, nocturia, paralysis, eyelid oedema, palpitations, memory disorders, speech disorders, hearing impairment, sleep disorders, heart rhythm disorders, purpura, tongue changes and changes in the oral cavity, tiredness, xerostomia and changes in respiratory rate.

Attention is also devoted to major laboratory findings such as basophilia, eosinophilia, and eosinopenia. The epilogue deals with eponymous names that occur in the book.
