Abstract
Organization of the medial ligaments of the ankle is much more complex than traditionally described. Older concepts dividing the deltoid ligament into a superficial and deep portion will have to be replaced by a new concept dividing the ligament into the anterior tibiosubtalar and posterior tibio-talar parts.
Appreciation of their stabilization function will allow understanding of a variety of injuries in the area of the medial malleolus
