Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the authors' experience in the Bosworth hip shelf arthroplasty as an operation treating acetabular dysplasia in patients over 30 years. A group of 17 patients (21 hips) was treated for dysplasia of the acetabulum with Bosworth hip shelf arthroplasty.

The mean age of the whole group was 41 years (range, 30-53 years), the mean follow-up period was 12 years (range, 5-23 years). In 18 cases, the hips were assessed as spherical.

In the remaining 3 cases, the joint asphericity was associated with decentration of the hip. Osteoarthritic changes were diagnosed in 4 patients, of these 2 were associated with an aspherical joint.
