It is known that the processing of magnetic sensory information takes place in the superior colliculus. In our experiment, the effects of magnetic field changes on neuronal activity were assessed by quantifying c-Fos expression in Ansel ś mole rats.
Our results indicate that key components of the rodent navigation circuit contain subpopulations of neurons responsive to magnetic stimuli. Magnetic information may be integrated with other sensory and motor informations into a common representation of allocentric space within this circuit.
