Abstract

Pain is basically divided according to the length of its duration into acute and chronic pain. According to this division we chose different approaches to treatment.

Acute pain may be considered as a symptom of a disease or an injury, chronic and recurrent pain is a specific health problem, a separate disease. Questionnaires are used for detailed pain assessment, the short version of McGill University questionnaire is used routinely.

Numerical or graphical scales are used for the measurement of pain. Pharmacological treatment is divided into three WHO grades according to the intensity of pain.

Intervention techniques and neuromodulation are also used in the treatment of pain.
