Abstract

SUMMARY: The beginning of the discussion about a systematic approach to the school-based prevention of risk behaviour in the Czech Republic dates back to 15 years ago, when this issue was included in the agenda of the Czech Ministry of Education. This article introduces three key publications that were created as part of the development project referred to as VYNSPI.

These publications respond to the lack of texts structured and conceived in such a way, as well as to the enduring inconsistencies in basic definitions, terminology, and theoretical constructions and their application to school-based prevention. This field involves the activities of institutions and providers coming under at least five different governmental portfolios (including the Ministries of Education, Health, Labour and Social Affairs, the Interior, and Transport).

Logically, this has given rise to recurrent complex problems in terms of communication, conceptual frameworks, and organisation, which need to be addressed within a systematic approach. The three texts mentioned above are intended to facilitate the solution to the problem by unifying the perspectives and language adopted by the key stakeholders.

The first publication, which was also the first monograph drawn up by the project’s editorial team, is entitled "Primary Prevention of Risk Behaviour in the School System". "School-based Prevention of Risk Behaviour: examples of good practice" is the second publication described in the article. The third outcome of the VYNSPI project is "Interdisciplinary School-based Primary Prevention: the explanatory dictionary of basic terms".

All three works were published in the Czech language.
