Criminal Justice-Based Effective Drug Treatment. Notes from the London Practice Visit

Abstract

This article presents the Great Britain criminal justice system which is unique in focusing on the specific target group of offending problem drug users. The system is based on an early diagnosis of problem drug users among the accused offenders, on an early intervention, on an continuity of servises and on the multidisciplinary cooperation.

The criminal justice has specific orders and requirements which are based on the client specific needs, the courts emphasise the enforcement of these orders. The article presents the fundamental components of the system are Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) and Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR).

The text also contains monitoring methods of the criminal justice system and his effectivity in a crime reduction and in results of the mandatory treatment, but also a critical response to this system. The article is based on the intership and the basic literature review.
