Networking European universities through e-learning

In the article, typical pros and cons of e-learning are summarized and the added value of this teaching method is compared with more traditional approaches. Application of learning theories via electronic media is analyzed with respect to the efficiency of meeting learning objectives using diverse instructional strategies.

Students’ evaluation of the blended learning course showed their specific interest in the technical support that ensures availability of the teaching material, fair assessment, and wider communication opportunities. A case study of an e-learning course in higher education is presented.

Description is focused on the higher education network, the Virtual Campus for a Sustainable Europe, VCSE. Comparison of meeting learning objectives in a blended learning course with an e-learning version of the same course showed that e-learning meets the need for higher order thinking skills, active learning process and mutual communication.
