The role of environmental factors in autoimmune thyroiditis

Abstract

Autoimmune thyroiditis (AT) is the most frequent autoimmune endocrinopathy with multifactorial etiology. This article will review the role of environmental factors - heavy metals and infectious agents such as Helicobacter pylori which can play important role in the development of AT in patients with susceptible genotype.
