Tuberculosis from surgical point of view

Publication

Abstract

Surgery for pulmonary tuberculosis can be divided into diagnostic and therapeutic. In diagnostic surgery, we prefer mediastinoscopy, VTS, and parasternal mediastinotomii VATS in patients with pleural effusions, diffuse parenchymal or mediastinal disabilities lymphadenopathy.

Each sample is taken for cultivation and molecular genetic testing. Among the therapeutic interventions being particularly wedge resection by thoracotomy or VATS.

Furthermore, segmental resection, lobectomy and pneumonectomy rarely. Thoracic Surgery still has a role in the diagnosis of tuberculosis in the indicated cases following primary conservative treatment especially in patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis.
