Implant removal in revision hip arthroplasty

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2012

Abstract

The extraction of an implant is an essential step in the surgical management of prosthetic joint infection other than debridement and retention of the implant. A complete, well-done extraction of the prosthesis is a prerequisite of a favourable outcome of the patient.

Although not as complex as hip replacement extraction, removal of a knee implant is a challenging procedure.
