Abstrakt

Group of psychiatrists trainees conducted a semi-structured, on-line survey on the practice in prescribing antipsychotics, antidepressants and thymo-stabilizers and related decision-making process. Positive reception of this study and the high level of response was a comforting result itself.

In today's climate of evidence-based medicine and the various recommendations, the results of this study suggest that - as regards the question of which medication would be indicated for the self-treatment, the choice of drug was atypical antipsychotics, and the decision would be based entirely on subjective assess of the trainee and mainly on the effectiveness of such medication. Results for thymo-stabilizers were less noticeable.

The study showed that the level of efficiency and clinical experience with various preparations plays more decisive role than the "evidence-based" facts.
