Lung cancer and smoking

Publication

Abstract

Lung cancer is not the most frequent cause of death due to smoking, but about 90 % is caused by smoking. Smoking cessation even after this diagnosis improves the treatment outcomes - surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, as well as survival time.

Surprisingly, more than half of smokers smoke again if assessed longer than a year since the diagnosis. Interventions should be aimed at this aspect.
