Abstract

Eating disorders, as well as obesity, belong among the characteristic problems of contemporary world and its life style. Development of eating disorders is frequently linked with fear of overweight, which has often rational roots not only in the growing risk of obesity in the society, but is also rooted in personal or family experience.

The course of the illness itself, especially in case of bulimia, is connected with many psychic and somatic troubles, which are very well known to majority of people who fight with overweight all their lives and who are to a larger or smaller extent successful in limiting their food intake or who, on the contrary, are overeating. The border between anorexia nervosa and excessively rigid, restraining weight reducing dietary regime, is very fragile and many people who are treated for obesity meet the criteria for bulimia nervosa.
