Abstract
The authors discuss the potential uses of hypothermia in current cardiac surgery. Based on their own experience, they evaluate its risks and potential for safe management of extracorporeal circulation in deep hypothermia as well as techniques of circulatory arrest.
The paper includes a review of tools employed for optimal cooling and rewarming of the patient, and their use.
