Perioperative tumor markers levels in liver resection for colorectal metastases

Publication

Abstract

Tumor growth in the remaining liver may be accelerated after resection. The mechanism of this enhanced tumor growth remains unexplained, although growth factors that are released after hepatic resection may play a role in residual tumor growth.

Recent data focus on growth factors that may be released in response to surgery-stimulating receptors of residual tumour cells. Liver specific markers should be used also for liver regeneration monitoring.
