Buccal fentanyl – a new solution for breakthrough pain

Abstract

Breakthrough pain (BP) is defined as transitory pain that occurs on a background of relatively well controlled baseline pain. This is that kind of pain requiring us to provide patients with strong rescue medication against pain, and also with the rapid onset of its effect.

Buccal fentanyl is a new drug formulation, already approved in the Czech Republic and its implementation into daily routine can improve quality of life in oncologic patients.
