2012

Abstract

Methanol poisonings have been extremely rare in the Czech Republic for at least the last 60 years, however in September 6, 2012 the Czech Toxicological Information Centre (TIC) was consulted due to the first methanol case and a series of decades new cases followed. Therefore, in the first days, a warning concerning the outbreak in Central Europe was sent to european and world toxicological information centres, and to the ASHTIII working group.

During September 2012, there were 26 victims and new subjects admitted due to ingestion of adulterated spirits. Several survivors had serious neurological and/or ophthalmological sequelae.
