Abstract
This article introduces a psycholinguistic approach to the literacy development and the central concept of this notion- phoneme awareness. There is Development of this skill; ways of its assessment and research are described here.
We are also offering a review of current state in Czech literature to understand importance of phoneme awareness to the literacy development.
