Principles of bioptic histological examinations of parathyroid gland are presented. Long standing renal failure leads to the developement of secondary hyperplasie in four parathyroid glands.
Most such patiens present with evidence of parathyroid hyperfunction. In hyperplastic parathyroid glands occur different types of cells sometimes producing hyperplastic nodules.
In so-called tertiary hyperparathyroidism a dominant adenoma may develop in background of hyperplasia.
