Diseases of the popliteal artery can be divided into atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic, among which embolism, aneurysm, entrapment syndrome, cystic adventitial degeneration, compression from the outside and trauma belong. Sonography, CT angiography, magnetic resonance imaging and conventional angiography are applied as diagnostic methods in popliteal artery diseases.
Treatment could be partly conservative, surgical, and interventional in specific cases, however it is very often combined.
