Abstract

The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) workshop on „Chromatin Structure, Organization and Dynamics“ took place in Prague, Apríl 9-13, 2011. It organized by the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague (local organizer Ivan Raška).

The aim of this prestigious workshop was to bring together experienced scientists, Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows working on chromatin structure and dynamics and scientists working on the diverse functions of chromatin. The goal was to establish an informal and intimate atmosphere (120 participants in total) in which oral and poster presentations by students and postdoctoral fellows were complemented by talks from leading researchers in these areas (e.g. one Nobelist participated in the workshop).

Many world leading laboratories in the field of chromatin were represented at the workshop. The evaluation of the workshop by participating scientists, as judged through the EMBO anonymous questionnaires, was above all expectations, both concerning scientific and organizational/social aspects of the workshop.

In the overall evaluation, more than 58% of participants evaluated the workshop as excellent, more than 33% as very good, less than 6% as good, and in less then 3% of questionnaires the evaluation was not given. Nobody evaluated the workshop as adequate, poor or unsatisfactory.
