The Czech Republic failed by far to reach the indicative target of 2% share of biofuels in the overall fuel consumption in the transport sector prescribed by the EC Biofuel Directive for 2005. This fact is an unpleasant outcome of many twists and turns in biofuel promotion during the last 15 years.
In our paper we aim at analysing and assessing economic and institutional aspects of biofuel market development that brought the Czech Republic from the position of a forerunner to a laggard’s stance.
