Abstract

The authors present guidelines for anttiretroviral therapy provided in the Czech health care system, which are based on both foreign recommendations and their own experience with caring for HIV/AIDS patients. The guidelines are based on a systematic assessment of the patient and lead to precise diagnosis and recommendations according to uniform criteria.

The document provides specific instructions for making decisions on the initiation of antiretroviral therapy, for selecting individual drugs and for monitoring therapy outcomes and adverse effects, and for responding to potential failure. Special attention is paid to the administration of antiretrovirals to pregnant women and patients with co-morbidities, in particular tuberculosis or hepatitis.
