An Introduction to Greco-Latin Medical Terminology

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2011

Abstract

This textbook is intended for English speaking students of General Medicine at Czech medical faculties who, at the same time, are confronted with the exotic image of Czech language. The aim – to minimalize the Latin (and Greek) grammar and the memorizing for the benefit of understanding specific professional features and topics – prefers the demonstration of useful approaches, i.e. the principles of analogy and creativity that should detect the proximity of Indo-European vocabulary and some grammatical phenomena as well as enrich the students with intellectual joy in recollecting (sometimes unconscious) previous knowledge and in detecting probable solutions.

Lucidity of explanation is enhanced by tables and diagrams, and multifarious exercises are completed with a key, which enables self-testing.
