Abstract

The Wellness Programme is a group psychoeducational programme for people suffering from psychotic illnesses. It is led by trained nurses.

In a field questionnaire survey we studied the physical illnesses, motivation for attending and opinion about the programme among 27 participants (11 men). The average age was 37 years, average BMI was 30.9.Patients with normal weight with the incipient psychosis were in minority. 8 participants had at least one co-morbid illness.

The majority of participants was treated by multiple medication, just 5 of them took antipsychotics in monotherapy. The patients are concerned about their physical health. At the Wellness Programme they appreciated the practical instructions and possibility of meeting people with similar complaints.

The results show that we should attract more the patients at the beginning of the antipsychotic treatment and include the topic of combination of remedies and their influence on weight gain into the programme.
