Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2012

Abstract

The authors give the survey of the studies dealing with the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and impaired hearing. Using different methods, the studies show OSA as responsible for the growing share of persons with peripheral and/or central involvement of the auditory system.

The text gives a brief explanation of the pathophysiology of OSA relative to hearing disorders due to hypoxia, exposure to noise, vibrations, secondary OSA comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperviscosity of blood.
