Examination of thyroid function during pregnancy, our results

Abstract

Insufficient function of the mother's thyroid gland can cause low concentrations of thyroxine which is necessary for the proper development of the fetus' brain. Early and right diagnose of hypothyroidism is reliable prevention of consequences.

The investigation of TSH, FT4 and anti TPO together is necessary. There exists a positive association between the presence of thyroid antibodies and postpartum thyroiditis.
