Abstract

In the conference on preservation of the monuments of Lower Nubia organized by the UNESCO in Aswan in 2009, not only results of its international action in the sixtieth of the last century were remembered. There was also a panel discussion regarding the intangible heritage of the Nubians, whose protection today became an actual task.

It has been hampered by the unfavourable fact of the current dispersion of their living areas, from big Egyptian cities through Kom Ombo, Aswan, Toshka, Wadi Halfa, Khartoum and Khashm el-Ghirba, where they are living in Arab speaking environments. This created efforts to preserve their ancient Nubian languages and traditions in own Nubian clubs, documentation centres and museums.

Teaching children in Nubian should be, however, introduced in nurseries and primary schools, to ensure the identity of the Nubians.
