Measuring theory of mind in psychoses using the Rorschach method

Publication

Abstract

Theory of mind (TOM) is a significant psychological concept, which describes developmentally attained ability to view situations from the perspective of another subject, or to represent another person´s subjectivity as different from one´s own experience. This ability appears and develops throughout the first several years of life.

Many studies show that there is some connection between TOM disturbance and presence of psychotic and autistic features. The goal of this project is to find correlates of TOM disturbance in Rorschach protocols.

Rorschach is one of the main methods of clinical assessment of thought disorders and TOM is currently one of the major concepts investigated in connection with psychosis, autism and other mental disorders. Thus, finding these correlates would be of much import for clinical research and practice.
